Home 2 Weeks!

Fun At Pump It Up
Playing Air Hockey w/ Grampa
Dance Dance Revolution
Devotional Time With Daddy
Wow! Two weeks have just flown! This week, all of the other kiddos went back to school so we were able to do some fun new firsts like going to jump at Pump It Up where big sister works, getting their 1st Happy Meal, and going to Cici's Pizza. They also went with Daddy to Baskin Robbins and to tour the local fire department. Lots o' fun! Oh, and then there was their first physicals and bloodwork. Boo! But they all handled that so well, and that is what earned them their first Happy Meal! :-)
I have to say that all three are just doing beautifully. Yes there are adjustments and language barriers, but they all keep a smile on their face and are so ready to be a part of a family. They really are joyful, and all have been so receptive to all of the changes in their lives to include correction. It is a huge blessing to be their Mommy, and to play a part in their lives. I am thankful.
They went to their age appropriate classes at church yesterday (their request) and they all really enjoyed it! They are anxious to start school and have been asking me "Please give me math." Please give me science." Please give me reading." They have dental appts this week (it will be a big deal....trust me) and then the goal is for them to start school next Monday. They are soooo ready!
Lastly, the girls begged to take their hair out of their braids. I learned #1 95% of the braids were extensions. #2. Their hair is VERY short. #3 Their hair is very coarse and dry. HELP! I'd love advice on deep conditioning on a dime. I know that so many people LOVE the pricey products but I have to believe that there are products just as good that don't cost almost $20 per product. However, I think that if necessary, I'd be willing to splurge right now just to help out all of this hair in need! :-)
Okay, that's it for this week. I've already been interrupted about 50 times trying to type this so it will never get posted if I don't finish up!
Blessings, Kristy

Ben was so excited that Yadel was in his group at church. Fifth grade? I'm so excited to hear all of your adventures. How exciting. Seems as though the kids are adjusting well and learning quickly about typical American life. Wow... Happy Meals, Pump It Up and Cici's... all in one week!

I'm in the same dry hair boat. We use lots of coconut and I rarely shampoo so I don't strip the oil. Next week after a trip, I am going to concoct my own hair mayonaise to leave in her hair overnight (blending avocodo, eggs yolk, olive oil, coconut oil--my own mental mental mix). I am staying away from any alcohol, petroluem, etc.) I'll let you know how it goes.

LOVE your posts and seeing your family together!!!

Kristy,
Call me on the hair front. I have tried MANY products and feel like I can give you a good overview of them and prices. Gigi has a TON of huge hair and keeping it moisturized as well as de-tangled are the main issues. Call me friend, would love to get together and put some of the products I have to use for you to try them out and see you all!

Glad to hear that the kids are adjusting well. The dental thing has been a bit of a nightmare for us...both of our Ethiopian born kids have needed extensive dental work (four thousand dollars worth) including root canals and crowns. Before taking them to the dentist, we showed them a few videos on youtube about kids visiting the dentist and read books so that they would know what to expect.

As for the hair, shampoo only once a week but condition every day. Over shampooing really dries it out. Sleeping with a satin hair cap helps or some people use satin pillow cases but this is also to tame the frizzies. I know that there are some homemade conconctions that some people swear by. There is a yahoo group devoted just to African hair care for adoptive parents but I haven't had time to join it yet so don't know the exact name (sorry) but I hear that it is a wealth of information. Best of luck on this.

It was so good to catch up on your family. Wow you all are doing amazing and I love all of the pictures. I too would suggest coconut oil, shampooing little, and a silk cap, but hopefully you can find something really thick to do a deep conditioning on them. We used coconut oil on the boys' skin too for a long time because it has healing properties too. Share what works for you once you figure it out.
